SHE MATTERS

About
Investing in women survivors of war to help them heal and rise out of poverty and victimhood into empowerment.

Mission
Our mission is to reach the women of the world who have been used as weapons of war and to help them regain their dignity, their femininity and their self esteem.
Company OverviewFounded by Alison Potvin and inspired by the courage of Masika Katsuva, She Matters - social enterprise combined with philanthropy - is designed to empower women in developing nations.

Description
She Matters is an awareness initiative created to give a name and a face to the hundreds of thousands of women and girls who have had their voices taken away through savage rape, violence, and gender based oppression throughout the world. We want these women and girls to know that we hear them and that each and every one of them is as precious to us as our own mothers, sisters and daughters.

Inspired by the courage and perseverance of Masika Katsuva, She Matters is dedicated to helping women survivors of rape and war regain their dignity and value as women by providing them medical care, skills training and sustainable employment.

Through our outreach program, we go into communities and create initiatives that train these women in specific skills like sewing, jewelry making, animal husbandry farming and carpentry so that they can gain economic independence and a sense of personal empowerment.

As a social enterprise, we develop and market products here in the US to be sold in the West. Thus, we provide jobs for Americans while at the same time helping women in other parts of the world raise themselves and their children out of oppression and into empowerment.

We also are committed to encouraging people just like you to take action - to be their voice - by organizing fund raising events to raise awareness for the plight of these women. Because the truth is, each and every one of us has the power to change one woman's life forever. We can stand by silently and do nothing, or we can be brave enough to say "I will not look away" and to be the change we would like to see in the world.
