Mission & Vision

Mission Statement: The mission of R.U.B.I.E.S., Inc. is to encourage young ladies to realize their full potential through an elevated level of self-worth, self-love and self-determination.

Vision Statement: The vision of R.U.B.I.E.S., Inc. is that every young lady be educated, empowered and inspired on the importance of self-worth through community leadership, cultural enhancements, health and wellness, and life skill development. Living the mantra “Realizing yoUr Best In Every Situation”.

Our History
July 8, 2010 – R.U.B.I.E.S., Inc. was incorporated by Lathasia Carpenter, Founder Chantell Garrett and Tyra Wilson
August 2010 – Hosted first board meeting with founding board members; Kristina Collins, Evelyn Garner, Alisa Henley, Chantell Garrett, Eric Johnson, Hashina Webster and Tyra Wilson (not all present) at DuBois Consultants, Inc. in Kansas City, MO
September 2010 – R.U.B.I.E.S., Inc. received tax exempt 501(c)3 status
October 2010 – First contract received through LINC Caring Communities at Hartman Elementary in the Kansas City Missouri School District to facilitate weekly mentoring program “From a Hard Rock to a Gem” for over 33 young ladies in 2ndto 6th grade. Mentors Chantell Garrett and Tyra Wilson facilitated programming every Wednesday from 3:30-5:00pm
November 2010 – Hosted a movie premiere and panel discussion of the Tyler Perry film “For Colored Girls” at AMC Mainstreet for 100 community supporters. Panel discussion was hosted by Hot 103 Jamz’s DJ Robin Knight with panelists Dyan Devereaux (Hot 103 Jamz’s DJ), Crystal Booker (Movie Critic with Mass Appeal), Ina Montgomery (Community Activist), Aleisha McGee (Community Member) and Dr. Sarita Graham (Executive Director at the Princess-Phyllis Wheatley House)
November 2010 - Received the first major gift in the amount of $300 towards the Project 100 scholarship initiative from the Zeta Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha at the University of Missouri-Columbia
February 2011 – Second contract received through LINC Caring Communities at Holliday Montessori to facilitate weekly mentoring program for 17 young ladies in 2nd to 6th grade. Mentors Terri Fletcher and Chantell Garrett facilitated programming every Friday from 3:30-5:00pm
March 2011 – Elected Mikki Taylor-Hendrix and Montel Evans as board members
April 2011 – Profile created with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation
May 2011 – Urban League of Greater Kansas City donated office space to the organization
June 2011 – Received a $500 Gilmour grant from the Kansas City Music Club to be used towards arts programming with Kansas City Young Audiences
June 2011 – 3rd contract received through LINC Caring Communities at Three Trials Elementary in the Independence School District to facilitate weekly mentoring program during summer school for 15 girls in 2nd and 3rd grade. Mentors Terri Fletcher and Chantell Garrett facilitated programming every Friday from 4:00-5:00pm.
June 2011 – Registered seven participants for the inaugural “No Boys Allowed” 2011 summer series
July 2011 – R.U.B.I.E.S., Inc. will CELEBRATE one year full of achievements and successes due to people like you that have served, supported, entrusted their children or donated to the organization!
July 2011 – Received a $1,000 grant from Mary Elizabeth Martin Scholarship Trust through Greater Kansas City Community Foundation to support Project 100 scholarship program.
July 2011 – R.U.B.I.E.S., Inc. hosted “Cupcakes and Cocktails” in celebration of their one year anniversary at Artis Event Space.
October 2011 – Accepted 10 young women into the Project 100 scholarship program for first generation college students; Audreanna E., Jacoya R., Diana K., Alicen B., Leah L., Gari M., Marciana R., Tesia R., Briana P. and Roda M.
October 2011 – Began second year of “From a Hard Rock to a Gem” programs through Hartman LINC site.
November 2011 – Formed partnership with Girls Scouts Troop #2513 of NW Missouri and NE Kansas to provide supplemental programs and services.
December 2011 – Hosted inaugural holiday event “Unwrap a Gift: Holiday Toy Drive & Warmth Giveaway”.
