COLLEGE GIRL, INC

About
A nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the number of disadvantaged young women who graduate from college
General InformationCollege Girl Inc. (CGi) is the brainchild of Yolanda Jenkins and Tamika Heard. Created in September 2011 the organization was officially incorporated with the state of Maryland on November 11, 2011.

The organization was founded to increase the number of disadvantaged young ladies who graduate from college through life skills and leadership development, college readiness education, self-empowerment, mentorship and scholarship.

In December 2011, CGi partnered with Woodlawn Senior High School to begin its inaugural year at the school during the 2012-2013 school year.

College Girl, Inc. is composed of 2 phases; the high school phase and the college phase. During the high school phase participants will engage in weekly events; bi-monthly study sessions and bi-monthly workshops which will prepare them to become successful college students, as well as empowered and self-sufficient young ladies. By participating in academic-year long workshops young ladies will become knowledgeable, well rounded, and dynamic young women. Young ladies will participate in workshops topics that fall within all four of the following series categories: The College Readiness Series, the I Love Me Series, the Dynamic Diva Series, and the Real Relationships Series.

The second phase is for College Girl Inc. participants that have matriculated to colleges and universities. During their freshman and sophomore years, young ladies in the collegiate phase will participate in three workshops per year and be assigned a collegiate mentor. During their junior and senior years, young ladies will have the opportunity to continue participation in the program by becoming mentors to younger program participants. College Girl Inc. participants will be guaranteed a scholarship in their freshman year, given successful participation in the program during the high school phase.
