Our Mission
The Women Worldwide Initiative is a fiscally sponsored organization of Subud International Cultural Association with the mission to connect, inspire and educate women and girls on a global scale through mentorship programs, social change projects, and awareness campaigns. TWWI is dedicated to youth development, and cultural and economic empowerment of women and girls in low-income communities inNew York City and developing countries.
Our Vision
The Women Worldwide Initiative envisions a global community of women and girls who believe in their self-worth, are informed and smart decision-makers, and are motivated to be leaders and change-makers in their own communities.
How We Got Started
The Women Worldwide Initiative was in the planning stages for quite some time. Founded in July 2009 by Uraidah Hassani, a student at New York University, the Women Worldwide Initiative began as an online social network specifically for women and girls, now dubbed the “Inspiration Network.” The idea of an online social network exclusively for women and girls came to her while working with the Chicago Advisory Council on Women and mentoring inner-city teenage girls in Brooklyn. She wanted the mentees she had in Chicago to have access to the same resources and information that her mentees in NYC had through the mentorship program, WYSE. In an age where young girls and women are being ever more influenced by everything but a positive role model, the importance of a safe portal for women to express themselves, connect with others and reach out for resources and inspiration has become essential.
In 2011, while acting as the Representative to the United Nations for Susila Dharma International Association (an NGO with consultative status to the UN and UNICEF), Uraidah moved forward with her dream to create anonprofit organization to empower women and girls on an international scale. Uraidah has positioned The Women Worldwide Initiative as an essential voice to and for women, encouraging them to be leaders within their own communities. TWWI believes in holistic, sustainable, innovative and high impact programs for women and girls because they need to be empowered today and in the long-term.
