G.E.M.S --"Girls Empowered by Morals and Standards", a program designed for teens ages 13-17, was successfully launched by Adriane Simmons in the Spring of 2006. G.E.M.S. was a great success! Adriane Simmons and Kara Norman came together in 2008 to create "Jewels" a program for pre-teen girls ages 9-12. In 2010 they combined both programs and are now G.E.M.S. and Jewels Empowerment Group for Girls!
Kara and Adriane both had daughters who were pre-teens and teens and began to see the major changes that take place emotionally and physically during each age group. Realizing that their daughters were growing up in a society much different than their own, they put their passion and creativity into action. They realized that by reaching young girls at an early age they could have a tremendous impact on them as teenagers and young women.
The mission of the G.E.M.S. and Jewels program is to promote self-esteem, self-awareness, self worth and respect within the lives of young girls and teens. Through enrichment workshops/activities, cultural awareness, community service projects, mentorship, leadership/educational programs and social activities G.E.M.S. and Jewels will accomplish these goals and create confident young women who will make a difference in our world!
