About Us

The executive board of the Society for Girls, Inc. consists of well educated, business savvy, driven young women that are determined to empower the next generation of girls. Each member of the board has worked in some capacity motivating and inspiring young girls. The board members are committed to helping the next generation make a smooth transition into womanhood.

MISSION

The Society for Girls, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to empower girls to be smart, resourceful, and confident; by engaging them in their communities, building their self-esteem, and encouraging them to make a positive mark on the world.

VISION

To blossom into a national organization that positively impacts the lives of girls that come from low to middle economic status backgrounds today and groom them to be role models tomorrow.

PROGRAMMING

The target demographic for the program is middle school aged girls 11-13 that come from a low to middle economic background.


The Society for Girls, Inc. has created programming that will target the issues that many middle school aged girls go through as they are in a transitional period of their lives. The programs are designed to educate the girls in financial literacy, civic engagement, media literacy, self-esteem, physical fitness, and sexual education.

Shantelle Johnson

Native of small town Salisbury, MD. She attended Bowie State University earning a BS in Communications (Broadcast Journalism) and earning her MA in Media Studies and certificate in Media Management from the New School University in New York, NY. She has worked in the entertainment industry for nearly 5 years and while located in New York City she wanted to get involved with something more than just entertainment. So, she became the promotions chair for the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network, a non-profit organization that focused on providing a balanced portrayal of women in entertainment. She has always had a passion for empowering and mentoring young girls. While at Bowie State University she served as Miss Bowie State University, and in that role she started The Society of Sophisticated Ladies, an organization that mentors freshmen females. It was that passion that led her to start The Society for Girls, Inc. Shantelle also serves as a board member for MRG, the Michael Robinson Group, a full service special event planning company.Kyle McKinney

Born in Charleston, SC, Kyle McKinney was raised in the Myrtle Beach area until he graduated from Socastee High School. He entered Bowie State University in the fall of 2002 after accepting an Academic Scholarship in to the Honors College. While there he went on to become the Student Government Association Treasurer, Resident Assistant, and Admissions Student Assistant, among many other jobs in the local community. Upon Graduation in 2006 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, he took a position as a Contract Specialist with the Army at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey. He has since returned to Maryland, where he completed an Internship with Urban Solar Solutions, which sales only environmentally friendly lighting and water conservation products, and a 9 week Green Certification program at Prince George's Community College. In the next couple of weeks he will begin a new career as a Visa & Passport Specialist I.Kehli D.Cage

Chairwoman of Programing-Earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communications with a focus in public relations from Bowie State University 2008 and she is currently enrolled at Trinity University, working to obtain a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. She is an educator by nature, so my passion is to work to provide female adolescents with greater knowledge and opportunities through the programing created. It is her ultimate goal to provide young female with greater awareness to the possibilities around the globe, beginning with their community. Change is inevitable, but she want to instill in every girl that change begin with them. In the words of the humble peacemaker Ghandi- "Be the change you wish to see".Dana Robinson

Originally from Baltimore, MD, is a young professional on the rise in the industry. With a Bachelors Degree is Mass Communications from Delaware State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Media Studies and Film from The New School in New York City. This former Miss Delaware State University (2006-2007), has always imagined combining her endless love for Mass Communications with what she considers an obligation, that is to help effectively guide the future. As part of her civic duty she was named the Promotions and Event Planning Chair for The Society for Girls, Inc. She currently works full time as the Communications Coordinator for Arthritis Foundation, Mid Atlantic Region. Her ultimate goal is to continue to work closely with the executive board members to uplift and motivate the next generation of women through relevant programming and mentoring.Bernadette Cox

Sponsorship and Volunteer Chairwoman. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Bowie State University and received her M.A. in Human Services from Liberty University. Her passion is to help others and it is her hope that the Society For Girls continues to grow and enrich the lives of young girls everywhere.
