HELPING OUR WOMEN

HOW
Helping Our Women (HOW) is a 501(c)3 community based non-profit organization located in Provincetown, serving Eastham to Provincetown. Established in 1993, HOW is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and has 2 full-time employees: an Executive Director and an Office Administrator/Client Advocate. Diagnoses of clients include cancer, multiple sclerosis, AIDS, heart disease, pulmonary conditions, mental illness and other serious conditions. Over 40% of those being served are elderly. HOW's mission is to educate, empower and support women as they cope with chronic disease and life threatening illnesses. HOW also has an open door policy to provide referrals and advocacy to all community members. HOW's goals are to:
  • Provide direct services that assist in creating a more manageable lifestyle for women with chronic and life threatening illnesses
  • Provide clients with referrals and advocacy that improve access to health care, social services and benefits programs
  • Develop and implement programs that empower and educate women on issues related to their healthcare and well-being, and that are inclusive of diverse needs.
We are fortunate enough to have some wonderful supporters who attend our events, make donations, and include us in their estate planning so that we can meet these goals and provide our much needed services. We are also thankful for the funding we receive from the Provincetown Community Compact's Harbor Swim for Life, the Seamen's Bank Long Point Charitable Foundation, Provincetown Cares, the Cape and Islands United Way, the Edward Bangs Kelley and Elza Kelley Foundation, the Cape Cod Foundation, and the Hiebert Charitable Foundation. We also receive funding from theHuman Services Programs of the Towns of Provincetown, Truro and Wellfleet. This wide ranging community support effects the lives of our friends, relatives and neighbors on a daily basis.
